"What exactly is a water softener?"

Our water softeners are made to last and make your hard water soft as can be. Water containing magnesium and calcium can clog your plumbing, reduce efficiency of your appliances, and promote wear and tear on faucets, fixtures, and more. We use an ion exchange process to remove these minerals from the water using negatively charged resin beads. These beads react with the positively charged minerals then absorb them in their place by releasing sodium ions in their place. As a result your water exits the chamber in what we call a "soft" state."

"What will hard water do to my plumbing?"

Hard water can have long-lasting negative effects on your plumbing pipes, fixtures, and appliances. In addition to cloudy dishes and dingy shower doors, hard water will also stain metals like sinks and tubs.

Water pipes, especially older ones, are susceptible to leaks that can result in expense and interruption of service. In galvanized water pipes, small rock-like mineral deposits bang against elbow joints. that leaves cracks in the pipe’s coating, eventually causing the pipes to corrode. And, as you can guess, eventually leading to leaks.

Hard water can cause issues in your bathroom, including faucets, toilets, and shower heads. Scale buildup will prevent water from flowing as freely and can eventually cause your toilet bowl or other components to clog and stick or even fail completely.

Hard water is especially rough on water heaters when minerals in the tank settle to the bottom. As sediment layers deepen, your water heater becomes less and less efficient so find out if you have hard water in your home!

All this begs the question, "What in Sam Hill is hard water doing to our bodily organs?"

"Should I install a whole house water softener?"

You may be surprised how affordable one of our whole house units can be. And it's a great way to save time and maintenance on your water. So go ahead, ask us about whole house water filtration.
The most frequent comments we hear from home owners installing from having a whole house unit are:
  • No more "crunchy" hair
  • No more dingy laundry
  • Dishes come out crystal clear.
  • No more dry skin
  • No more soap scum on shower doors and curtains
  • How to know when to replace your water softener?
If well maintained, a whole house unit can typically last 10-15 years.

"How will I know when it's time for a new unit?"

Not every unit lasts forever; in fact, there are some signs that indicate it's time to get a new one.

1. DECREASED LATHER.
The first signs that your soap dispenser is on its way out is when you’re having to use more volume of shower gel, shampoo or soap than usual. If you’re experiencing this, or if it’s taking longer to foam up during your daily shower routine, give us a call before it becomes an expensive problem!

2. LAUNDRY PROBLEMS. You’re probably familiar with fabric softener (or, if you're new to laundry, here's the quick rundown: it’s a product that makes your clothes feel softer after they’re washed). So you might not have thought of this yet, but sometimes, fabric softener can cause laundry issues like scratchy or rough clothing. If this has happened to you, we can help revive your softener so it works like new again.

3. FUNKY TASTE. Hard water can have a different taste than regular water. If you notice that your water no longer has the mineral taste that's evident in soft water, it may be time to check your softener.

4. CALCIUM BUILDUPS. If you notice white chalky build up around your faucets, you may have a problem with your water softener. In order to determine if this is the case and if so, whether or not you need additional repairs or parts replacement; please call us and a representative will be happy to assist you in troubleshooting your system.

Soft water can be a game changer for your home. It will do wonders for any high efficiency appliance which includes dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers. Over time, hard water can cause build-up and make it impossible for your appliances to operate as designed. Take note of the signs and trust our expert to help you make an informed decision.
